I’ve loved her for twenty years. She’s a rare beauty luring with a dangerous high. And I am addicted.I can’t get enough. There is only one problem. He’s an abusive monster, destroying her down to the very root.He won’t get another chance.I’ll beat him to it.And steal my Poppy. There must be good things on the other side of bad.

“Be you. Be brave. Break the cycle.”I don’t know how Kailee Samuels does it but once again she has wrote another book like nothing that I have ever read before. How she continues to pop my cherry is beyond me. Truthfully, I was a little scared going into this story but KS never fails to deliver.“You’re a dangerous and heady intoxicant to my depleted soul.”I have said this before and I will say it again, anytime I read one of Kailee’s books I know to go in expecting the unexpected and just when I think I figured it all out or every is perfect…holy hell…the plot thickens and she flips the script on me turning my world upside down…again. To say I was surprised is a definite understatement. I was shocked, I cried, I lost hours of sleep reeling over the events that happened in this book. It is on a whole new level and is truly unforgettable.“His powerful and consuming kiss surged through my body until I was caught within his tidal wave. It was hot, pure, and powerful. I would never escape.”Poppy is young, hard working, going to school, looking for a better life but her fate was sealed the minute Kane laid his eyes on her. Kane is dark, deceitful, manipulative and charming when the situation calls for it. And he happens to have a son named Abel. Abel has seen too much for his young age. He has cut himself off emotionally but is mature and wise beyond his years, and he had me at cheesecake.“We are trapped inside of this cocoon, you and I. No one knows us here. No one would ever know.”This book has worked its way into my veins and will stay with me for years to come. Even writing this review makes me emotional. If I had to pick one song for this book it would be The Perfect Drug by NIN. If you want a dark book with a strong heroine, read this book. If you want a memorable love story, read this book. If you are dying for a story that will blow your mind, READ THIS BOOK!“I’ll be waiting on the other side of tomorrow.”~ Read on behalf of Two Darlin Dolls and a Book Review Blog

Poor Poppy!!!! This seriously took me ok a wild journey. There was so many things packed in this story. It was a little fast and jumpy at times but ut is definitely one of a kind. My heart hurt for Poppy and Abel.

Writing reviews for Ms. Samuels is always a hard thing for me to do because I always feel that I cannot do the book justice in my review. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while and there is a multitude of reasons to be a fan of hers. First, she has created this amazing world in which all of her characters are tied together in some sort of magical puzzle. Secondly, her writing is unique, it’s beautiful and masterful and the world she has created is so vivid, you genuinely become a part of it.So let’s talk about Poppy. Poppy is a girl who knows what she wants. She wants to finish school, earn her degree, and get the hell out of her mother’s path of destruction. Her life hasn’t been easy and with her mother’s constant parade of men, she’s finding it hard to stay out of their way.Enter Kane, he’s handsome, has a bit of money, and his eyes are set on Poppy. Oh Poppy, if only you knew! 20 years her senior, Kane knows a thing or two about what women want, and it’s nothing like the boys that swarm around Poppy. So when he takes her home to meet his son Abel, Poppy is hooked. This little boy needs her and she’s all too happy to oblige.Kanes behavioral change is almost instantaneous, he’s an angry man and he takes his anger out on Abel and Poppy. But Poppy has made a promise to Abel, stay with it until he’s old enough to get out of the house. So she endures years of his abuse, abuse that is incomprehensible to the average person, and while it’s easy to judge her for staying when you see her connection with Abel, you might just find it justified. Because she’s giving Abel her all, everything that boy has ever needed, she gives him. She’s going to make him the man his daddy never could be.Oh hell, Ms. Samuels, I always say “well this book is the best” and then you release a new one, and I have to rearrange the favorite order. I loved Poppy, from start to finish, I absolutely adored her. She’s strong and determined, and she makes for a fine main character. I loved how she tied into Sal and Amber’s world, and I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing more of Poppy, and I couldn’t be happier. Nicely done!

The story was interesting. It had good pacing and build up. I read it without taking a break. I read a lot of romance books and am always looking for something a little different and this story was. It is not a cookie cutter romance. The hero and heroine are likable and sympathetic people even though the heroine continued to stay in an abusive relationship telling herself and others it is due to love.In addition the physical and verbal abuse, this story contains other elements that will bother some readers. The hero is 18 years old and the heroine in her early 30’s when they become a couple. She helped raise him so since the age of 4 years old. He gives her his v-card and is only with her during the book. I liked that for several reasons including it shows how much he loves her, he is not a manhoe and it is a role reversal, atypical for a romance book. She has limited sexual experience. She lost her v-card when she was 15years old and then was in a romantic relationship with the hero’s father that quickly involved into abuse including rape. Also she had an affair with another man while married. Her husband was unfaithful as well and a lot of worse things. In addition the heroine is friends with a stripper/hooker and does drugs with her on more than one occasion. The hero calls the heroine’s friend his aunt and has since he was a child.BIG SPOILER BELOWThe reason that I could not and would not give this book a 5 star rating was because of the ending. The evil father was locked away and the hero and heroine got together shortly before that. Then they get married and want to have a child. However the heroine who is older is having trouble conceiving. Then after they have been together for 4 years she gets killed. She is buried and a few months later the hero is considering having a 3 way with her friend/his aunt Then the book ends. After everything that the heroine and the hero went through together, after all of those years of abuse they endured to kill her off was just wrong. Not only that but it all likelihood he was going to get it on with his aunt and her boyfriend. Just no. Way to ruin the story for me.

This wasn’t a bad story. Poppy was very easy to form a connection to and and Able was just perfect. The love connection could have used more attention and details. All in all it wasn’t the worst but it definitely could have been much better.

  6. Elaine Holcomb

How can one person take so much in her life? A mother who ignores her has her looking for love, and she thinks she finds that peace with Kane, and older man with a young child. But things can be very deceiving, the hell this young woman goes thru and the lengths she goes to save and protect Abel is both heartwarming and heart wrenching!! Ms. Samuels makes you feel everything like your in the same space as her characters, you won’t leave untouched I promise you. There are scenes that the despair touches your souls, then the times you feel hope, love. For all her demons and the way she sometimes deals with them, she is so strong, has so much heart. Can she show Abel there is a better way, a life not full of fear? The monster is this story is truly that, no redeeming qualities AT ALL, there’s a special place for people like him. This is a beautiful story, but at the same time a story that is terribly hard to read, warning there is abuse, and if you have triggers, go in with that knowledge. I’ve read Ms. Samuels before and this book is one of her best to date.

“I was going to break the cycle. His. And mine. That didn’t make it easy, but it restored my convictions and rejuvenated my soul enough to fight one more day.”When I was offered to read this, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into!! This story is one of those gritty, raw, and real, emotionally charged ones that really stick with you. I became so invested with Poppy, and as the story unfurled it really affected me when her tragic, yet remarkable life was put to the pages. Not your typical romance, not even close, but it was engrossing, heady, soul crushing, and just really deeply moved me. I may have cursed the Author quite a bit of how it turned out, and I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about how it ended, but it certainly left me reeling, and full of heartache at the lasting effects of abuse. Keep a tissue box handy, and maybe a stress ball, but this one had so much heart that it eclipsed a lot of the twists this story took that I wasn’t sure how to process when I was reading. Definitely unconventional, but absolutely worth every second!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!”I will be in love with you for the rest of my life, Poppy Elizabeth Higgins. You were the one. You were the magic in this mayhem of us. You are the heart in the monster of the man we built.”~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog

I can’t even right now !!! I will be back later !!Ok so its been a few since I finished this book and I am still trying to process. At first I didn’t think I was going to like where the book was heading but I stuck with it and so glad I did. There are triggers in this book so be prepared. This book has sadness, violence, strength, courage, devotion, love and so many other emotions. Poppy my goodness what a strong as hell heroine. She had such love and devotion to Abel. Their bond was off the charts amazing. She loved with all of her being and helped Abel become the man he became to be. Abel was amazing to have been through so much hate! He became a strong man and I hope I get to maybe see him in other books. Sal oh Sal I can’t wait to learn more about you!!

  9. Kindle Customer

This is a sad, tragic story about a young girl who decides to sacrifice her own happiness to save the soul of a toddler. What Poppy never saw coming was she learned to accept & give love unconditionally. She gave her youth & freedom to watch a young boy become a man & vowed to give him a chance to become more than what he was born into. This book is an extreme read & if you are easily triggered please do not attempt to read it. It can be brutal & ugly yet there is a love & a bond that grow from the abuse that is unstoppable. The story is part of the Juliet world & this specific story tells the truth about Sal’s objective to stop human trafficking.

  10. Chelle

Wow…..this book got me in places i can’t even begin to tell you. It is dark yet bright at the same time. Poppy is a true heroin. Kane is a true piece of sh*t. And i can not wait to read more off this author’s books!TRIGGER warning…there is rape & major abuse in this book.

  11. Scott Ryan

Has ups, downs, heartbreak, joy, anxiety, some good times, definitely some bad. And then you feel like your stomach is ripped out and stomped on. But don’t worry, you’ll survive it.What I’m trying to say is Kailee Samuels plays, no, gleefully shakes around your emotions. But, Damn, an intense read!

  12. Lisa B. Done

This is a frustrating and difficult novel to get through. Despite all of his vileness Kane was an interesting character. Unfortunately so much more could of been explored (why was he that way?, did he really love anyone? Etc). The beginning sex scenes were interesting because they described confliction so well for Poppy. But these scenes quickly became tedious as there were so many of them. I don’t read or view porn but it seemed like this skirted dangerously over the edge. I wish I knew what this novel was before buying and reading it. Nothing hopeful or positive for me at least came from this book. It did suck me in, in that I kept reading it perhaps continuing to expect something more to develop.

  13. Carol

I couldn’t finish this book. The author was obviously going for shock value here and kept trying to top herself. Went too far. Disgusting. It even felt wrong reading it.I couldn’t finish the book and feel like I completely wasted my time and money.

  14. NR

What in the Hades did I just read. Ewww. No.Don’t do it.

While I was at the KIKC book signing I was told I had to read Poppy by Kailee Samuels. I am always up for a new to me author and book recommendations. I had never met Kailee up until that moment and it was a brief meeting. I was told, and not by her, that I would absolutely love Poppy. I went into Poppy blindly, only knowing that it was a dark romance.I will freely admit it took me a month to finish Poppy. This has nothing to do with the book but had to do with the fact that life and all of it’s reality kept hitting me in the face. So the other morning I decided no matter what I was going to make damn sure I finished this book.Laying in bed, I knew this was the one time I had to really dive in and down the rabbit hole I went. And what a rabbit hole it was.Poppy is a young woman at the start of her “adult” life. In truth she has been an adult most of her life. Forced by her surroundings to be more adult than any child should have to be, Poppy is looking forward to her future, to getting out from underneath the life she is living. Poppy works as a waitress at a little local diner, saving for college. She’s not one to mess with the boys in town because she wants more in her life than being a lifer. Then she meets him, Kane. Older, handsome, and a smooth talker. Poppy thinks she’s found someone special. But Kane is just about to introduce her to the one person who will totally change her life; his son, Abel.I wish I could tell you more but by doing so I would literally give everything away. Some things are meant to experience, Poppy is one of them. From start to finish Samuels grabbed me. She toyed with my emotions. The roller coaster Samuels put me on kept me grasping for more. I had to have more Poppy.Samuels will flawlessly entrap you. Have you begging for more. Poppy will become your addiction and just like me, you’ll want more.

  16. jwm

This book was a bit different than Kailee’s other books. It’s still dark, with abuse the main focus, but it wasn’t consensual and kinky, just straight up abuse.Poppy is a young lady of 17 when she meets Kane. He’s a charmer and quickly wins her over by taking care of her and helping her out of her trailer trash life. Unfortunately, she trades neglect for abuse. The one stable, shining star in her otherwise dark existence is Abel, her stepson. She makes it her mission to prevent him from becoming his father. There was so much hope in this book despite the abuse. Hope for Poppy to make it out alive and Abel to become great. This one was definitely an emotional roller coaster for sure and very well written.

  17. Ellee

It’s hard to put “Poppy” in a category when it touchedon so many subjects. Without trying to give spoilers away,It was for me a story of how one person can changethe entirety of your life just by being there and givingyou the opposite of what you are given by the peoplewho are supposed to give it unconditionally. I guessthat as you keep reading, and brave through the storylike Poppy did, you’ll see that family, love and compassiontakes not only different faces, but also many forms.Lastly, what I took from this book is –It seems as thoughyou think you’re alone and invisible, but someone is alwayswatching and waiting for their turn to give back what youso helplessly gave…

  18. Shaun

Literally just finished the book and I just don’t know what to feel, think..I’m just wow. I can’t say much because this book.just has to be read, I refuse to give anything away. I will say it’s a beautifully tragic story of absolute love. Poppy’s strength is astounding, her life a story of abuse and she is so freakin strong. Go into this book with an open mind, no expectations, just know it’s about love, a beautiful love.

  19. Phoenix

Kailee Reese Samuels doesn’t just write dark, angsty fiction. She uses her beautiful mastery of words to relay the raw, gritty realities of the world. Her characters are complex and flawed, her interwoven stories always tie into some bigger profound picture, and her stories will absolutely make you Feel EVERYTHING. Poppy tackles the heartbreaking and soul-rending realities of domestic violence as Poppy and Able attempt to escape Kane’s deadly clutches, but can the cycle of abuse be broken before they are?

  20. Wendy Livingstone

Wow, this story blew me away! This is a beautifully written story, which is heartbreaking, tragic, emotional, dark, gritty, thrilling, and is filled with twists and abuse, which all lead to a hauntingly powerful story which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. This is a definite must read, as you will never be disappointed with this talented author, and I cannot wait to read more of her work. Truly brilliant work Kailee!

I don’t even know where to start with this one. This was a tough read and there were certain parts that turned me into a blubbering mess. The ending was so bittersweet and I’m still not sure how I feel. This is one of those books that will stay with you for a long time.

I have read a few other books by this author,,,,Poppy Elizabeth Higgins works night shift at Robby’s Diner, they have to wear pink and black uniforms that show way too much but the tips are good,,,, she graduated high school early and now she works 12 – 14 hour shifts to pay for college,,, her dad died when she was 9 and since then her mother has went downhill,,,, using drug, alcohol and many, many men,,,, not caring if Poppy was home or not,,,, she is use to getting hit on by guys but there is this older gentleman, Kane David Parker,, that is flirting with her all the time,,,,, she goes outside with him, to his truck one night and things happens between them, nothing real bad, but she’s not sure that she wouldn’t like something more to happen,,,, she goes to his home one night and meets his little boy Abel and after knowing the boy she nicknames him tater-tot,,,,,This book took me a but of time to read, it is kinda dark, but I didn’t want to miss anything,,,, I felt bad for Poppy, her life growing up and all,,, sone of the things she does to overcome her situations are to her, right, at the time,,,,, and it shows what each one person would do to overcome different situations,,, I found this book interesting and I tried to put myself in Poppy’s place and wonder if I would’ve chosen the same path,,,,I voluntarily got an ARC of this book to do an honest review,,,,,,,

When I embark on reading a new book by Kailee Samuels, I know that I am going to fall into her words and not come out until it’s done. Poppy is a book which perfoms on so many levels. It is a thriller, a romance, a study of brutality, vulnerability, resolve, commitment, aloneness (a new word), youth and naivety….just so very many levels. I sat thinking about it for ages after I finished. Thought about choices and the lack if them. Our thought patterns when we are very young. How isolated you can be even in a crowd, and the courage to be found within our bones and hearts to withstand the most awful situations in order to protect others and ensure their safe passage to adulthood. Poppy is stunningly brave and determined. Abel wise beyond his years. Kane, a devil in human clothing.I am not going to say anything further about the plot as it is so very complex and so very well conceived, that I would be doing both you and the author a huge disservice to reveal any more than the spare details I have given you. My sincere advice is one click now, put your head into top gear and hang on for this amazing ride. Bravo Kailee!

Kailee Reese Samuels never ceases to amaze me. Her books are brilliant and they keep you in the edge of your sit. Let me assured you that you’ll never be the same, because they change the way you see life.Poppy is a story of a seventeen year old girl that wants to get out from the abuse she endures by her mother.Poppy has two goals in mind, get her own place to live and get into college. She wants to become a better person, but she can’t while living under her mother’s roof.In the process of working hard to try and fulfill her dreams she meets Kane. She finds herself very much attracted to him, even though he is 20 years older than her.But like my mom always says not everything that shines is gold.Poppy decides to live a life of torture all in the name of love. Her love for Abel, Kane’s son.(“I married the man, fell in love with his son, and found the strength to fight for us both.”)This story is about the great lengths that you’ll go because of love and how much are you willing to sacrifice for it.(“This is about winning the game of life.”)This love story is a train wreck waiting to happen, and I can’t stop reading it. I know it’s going to break my heart but I really can’t stop reading it.(“Good things are what happens on the other side of bad.”)Let me assure you that you won’t regret reading Poppy.

Oh my gosh I can’t put in to words how much I adore this book!!!! But then again Kailee is my unicorn author and I love anything and everything she writes.Kailee has a way of pulling you in to the story and the characters you just feel what they go through so much so I cried so hard in places during this book. It’s dark, gritty, brutal and leaves you feeling like what just happened but in a good way lol.Poppy the main character is wow reading what she goes through by the hands of the evil Kane is just heart breaking and her upbringing also was not the best, so when she falls for Kane he gets his claws in to her she could leave him but there is one small thing, his son Abel who is such a great guy in so many ways smart for his age and had to endure years of abuse and watch his sister and his mom endure it also. You can feel the love between poppy and Abel throughout this story and it’s one that sticks with you for sure.I can’t fault Kailee and her books never have I said a bad word about her books and I pretty much tell everyone to read her books I always have love heats for eyes when this sexy author is concerned and I urge everyone to give her books a chance cause I tell you, you won’t be disappointed.

Carla’s Five Star ReviewEager to escape her mother’s abusive nature, young Poppy jumps at the chance to marry the charming and handsome Kane. Unfortunately for her, she jumped from one abusive home to another. Yes, she could leave, but she refuses because there is a small child involved-a child she vows to protect and encourage with the hopes of him living a very different life from hers.Gah! This story is gritty and raw. It certainly isn’t your normal love story. In fact, it deals with domestic abuse, so if this is in any way a trigger for you as a reader, I would be cautious about reading this one. While this is a story of domestic abuse, it is so much more. It is a story of true love and selflessness. Poppy was everything good in the world. In fact, she is now one of my most favorite heroines and, trust me, that is saying something because I read a LOT. Now, that ending tore my heart out, but I get why it ended the way it did.

I couldn’t put this book down. Poppy was a great story, it was well written with a great plot and great characters. The story was filled with emotions. It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. So much happens in this story. Poppy is a strong woman that goes through so much, she’s a fighter.I’m going to stop there, I don’t want to give anything away. I suggest reading to find out what happens. You won’t regret it.I enjoyed this story. Thank you, Kailee Samuels. Great work 🙂

If there is ever a book that deserves more than 5 stars then this one is it! Leaving a review about this book is so hard because i could not express its greatness in just a couple of sentences. From the very beginning to the last page it was just unbelievably amazing! If you have read Kailee’s other books and follow Sal’s world then you know some of the players and how Kailee loves to just rip our hearts out! If you have not then you are truly missing an incredible journey. This book is within that journey with Kane, Poppy and Abel and a gut wrenching story of choices, promises and sacrifices to achieve an ultimate goal. Abel at 8 years old telling Poppy..”You should know, I think you should go.” She replies..”I can’t, if I leave, you’re next in line, and I can’t do that to you.” Get the tissues ready and be prepared to be blown away, mind and heart. And dont think you have a clue as to what Kailee will do next, she is purely evil but such an incredibly gifted storyteller! ❤

  29. Jaylea Williams

I cannot even apologize. It was the worst book I read in years. I have read dark before. This was NOT dark. This book was just disgusting. Slimey feeling. Wish they had negative zero ratings. I don’t know what catagory this book should be in but certainly not dark romance. It was not dark-it was slimy. And it definately was not romantic. I read a lot of romance, dark romance, etc. I feel like the author was trying to see just how far she could push the perversion. Maybe cross a line that had not been crossed in dark romance to become the new ‘IT’ in Dark Romance. Problem is she RAN completely across that line and has not even looked back to see that she is now in Perverted Smut Linda Lovelace does Dogs and Other traumatic Stories Land.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.Wow! This book is simply phenomenal. This story is full of emotional angst; it is riveting, dark, and wicked with some steamy sex scenes that are off-the-chart hot! You NEED to READ! I wasn’t expecting the turn this story took; it has quite an unexpected revelation that may leave you flabbergasted but it is jaw-dropping good! The story will keep you on the edge of your seat to find out what happened next. Not all of its surprises are pleasant ones, but there is a certain satisfaction in experiencing a thread that is so obstinately unexpected. With a diabolical plot that has twists and turns—some you see coming, some you don’t that makes it interesting! Kailee Samuels have constructed a deliciously duplicitous dark romance that will lure you into the wee hours and beyond that you will not be able to put this book down. You won’t regret reading Poppy!

  31. Tianna

Hungover, totally right now. What this woman does with words on the page never ceases to amaze me. I’ve got to say I’m shocked at the turn of events. If you want a cut and dry happily ever after, this ain’t it. Poppy went from the frying pan into the fire when she got with Kane. She was an incredible survivor, she was a hero to Abel as he was to her. Abel was an enigma, what he went through he was determined not to repeat the pattern. He broke free of that pattern with Poppy by his side. They were a great team and their mantra became good things are what happens on the other side of bad. As with any Samuels books the layers and cross overs intrigue me. And then there’s Sal, the good bad boy we all love. I hope we haven’t seen the last of Abel.

  32. Michelle V.

Wow…just Wow! I don’t even know what to say, except I loved Poppy! After everything Poppy went through her strength is amazing. This is an emotional, beautifully written, captivating story full of angst, abuse, tragedy, heartbreak, sacrifices, hope and twists that will bring you to tears. This is a fantastic book and I can’t wait to read the next one by this amazing author.

In this huge indie world sometimes I come across an author that makes me feel so deeply about their words, it’s hard to form a sentence. At that same time-I feel so absolutely horrible that I hadn’t discovered them sooner. Kailee Reese Samuels is truly one of the most talented writers in this world, and her work proves to be some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful of the year. This book was out of this world-it’s emotionally taxing, and filled to the brim with an angst that is like no other. It’s dark and gritty and filled with things that make you squirm, but I love this author that much more for taking the leap and pushing the envelope. If you can handle dark-you’re going to want to catch up on everything by this author as soon as possible. Poppy is a complete masterpiece! One of my favorites of the year!

I’m not even sure what to say. This story broke me, put me back together, then shattered me. Just, wow. This is an age gap and very very forbidden. It’s like border line taboo so please keep that in mind when going to read this story.

  35. WendyW

Kailee Samuels has written a heartrending story of innocence, sacrifice and unconditional love.Poppy’s courage and tenacity will steal your heart and hold your emotions prisoner. While Poppy’s story is surrounded by domestic violence and the sex trade, fundamentally this is a story about a woman and her strength and devotion to the love of one little boy who grew into a dynamic and caring young man. How the sacrifices you make for those that you love, with a faith so blind in the hopes that the payment you have made will bring a just reward. If anyone was more deserving of that reward, it would be Poppy and Abel. This story has wrought every emotion from me, and has taken a piece of me that will forever belong to Poppy! While this book may leave you in pieces, the value of having read it is far greater.

  36. Jenny B

Don’t mind me while I sit here curled up in the corner after reading this. Kailee Samuels has written another book that has left me speechless (kind of) This book was loaded with so much that left my head spinning. This was a dark, trigger issue laden book (for those that are sensitive readers) but what a tale it was. The author hit the mark in how much I loathed Kaine, loved the strength and the fight in Poppy and swoon over Abel (especially as a little one) I truly feel like there is so little I can say without revealing anything but the strength between Poppy and Abel is so heart warminng.Again, this book is loaded for triggers for sensitive readers however it is a fantastically and beautifully written story.

  37. Lisa

This was absolutely amazing I couldn’t put it down with the twists and turns on every page Poppy will capture your heart in every way, her strength and love is beyond anything you could even imagine as she goes through her young life in absolute horror. She is an amazing woman who will take your breathe away and I was so proud of her. The writing is fantastic and engages you right into the story and gives you all the feels.

  38. Tamra Simons

What an incredible read!Poppy’s story will grab you by the heartstrings with all the feels, love and emotion a thriller of tragic circumstance.Poppy is strong and overcomes more than any woman should have to. A story of strength & trials that life continues to throw Poppy’s way. A story where you hope there’s light at the end of the tunnel when good becomes dark and dangerous and only the strong will survive. One of the things I’m finding out with this author is nothing is as it seems, the twists and turns of the plot keep you gripping your kindle as you swipe the screen. The writing is flawless and captivates the reader from the beginning taking you on a journey as only a great author can do. I didn’t just read this book, I felt as if I lived it.

Poppy will leave you a changed person. Not at all ending the way I expected, this books dark twists and turns will rip your heart out and play catch with it!Poppy’s life is filled with choices and the choices she makes always have a purpose, even when we ourselves are begging her to mak any other choice than the ones she does. This story is an eye opener to why some choices are made while others are confused as to why. Poppy has become my Hero, her life is her own, and I feel blessed to have been allowed to travel the treacherous road of her life with her.Darkness in all its gory details is never easy, but Poppy’s life choices make it beautiful. Thank you for the journey.

This story is so heartbreaking, kaylee Samuels is a new author to me but with that said I wasn’t expecting the story to take such a big hold of me and at the end I feel so gutted. This is a dark and heartbreaking story of a young girl who all she wants is to be better and different than her abusive mother, Poppy goes thru such emotional and physical heartbreak. There was times I was crying so hard in the book other times I wanted to throw it on the wall by her decisions she was making, but in the end I’m still trying to recover from my emotional roller coasters this book made me feel. I would totally recommend this book it is so good. I hope she makes another book based on Abel.

Poppy is a fresh faced 17 year old at college, working in a diner to make money to survive. Her mother is not much help she has a different man constantly so it’s left for Poppy to be the grown up.Meet Kane a ruggedly handsome man 20yrs older than Poppy, and recently lost his wife & daughter though he has a young son.Kane takes an instant liking to Poppy, and one night be takes her outside to get himself off. This eventually leads to her moving in with him.I do not want to say anymore as I dont wish to give anything away. This story is dark & has some intense scenes but it also has romantic moments & was an amazing read I couldn’t put this book down, highly recommended.

[edit]Wow, another knock it out of the park for Kailee Reese Samuels! A story of abuse, love, loyalty, and Hope. I am so addicted to her stories in my mind they just get better and better. This can be a stand alone read, though after reading this story I do believe you will go in search of other awesome reads from this author. She started my addiction with A&E, and the He/She duet.Poppy trying to excel in high school to get out of the town and her mother’s house meets a man who thinks will be her salvation. She unfortunately found a new abuser. Abel, the small child that Poppy is determined to save from the monster of a father and groom him into a real man, a caring, sensitive, attentive, real man.

  43. Faith

Kailee Reese Samuels has done it again! Poppy is a very intense emotional roller coaster. The things Poppy and Abel go through in this book are heart wrenching. Poppy thinks Kane is her savior from her hard upbringing. But that way of thinking changes quickly. But the love she has for Abel makes the pain more tolerable. This book will definitely pull at your heart strings with all the feelings this book will bring you. You will not want to put it down. But this book has definite triggers in it with abuse and other things. So be prepared when you read this. But if you’ve read any other of Ms. Samuels books you know the intense ride is worth it! & As always I can’t wait for her next book!

  44. Expresso

I rarely step outside my comfort zone to read outside my faithful list of dark authors, but I took a chance on a new to me author, Kailee. One of the best reading decisions I’ve made!I had the pleasure of devouring Poppy! Wow! This dark story fed my soul. The characters, the scenes, the words are so heartfelt. I love a story that reads as if I’m watching a movie. It speaks highly of the author’s incredible talent.Although not dark in the traditional sense of a cookie cutter dark novel, I would advise to proceed with care. Some experiences may be perceived as triggers. If you’re a lover of dark reads, I highly recommend this story!Five fabulous stars!

This book was AMAZING. Heartbreaking and extremely dark.

How to start? Poppy was utterly breathtaking. I cant truly find the words to describe how I felt reading this story. Kailee takes this incredibly difficult topic and shows the reader the whole journey. She doesnt just plop you into Poppy and Kanes toxicity, you get to feel the passion for him in the beginning and understand how Poppy got to where she was and why she couldn’t leave. Women dont just fall into abusive relationships. She takes the reader on a journey that opens the door to tough conversations. The friendship between Amber and Poppy is almost more beautiful than the love between Poppy and Able. I loved everything about this story. I laughed, I cried, I yelled. I cried. This story was simply beautiful.

Jesus, this story ripped me to shreds. As I do not want to give too much away this story will break you, will give you hope, and then probably break you again.Kailee has a way of bringing a story to life. And it may not be a story you want or need, but it will be the story that she is going to tell you. The characters are telling a story through her and man this story is beautiful. This is a story to be read.

I received an ARC from the author herself. This is my honest opinion and review.Poppy is an another AWESOME read by Kailee Reese Samuels who also goes by Kailee Samuels. I could not put this book down and lost a nights worth of sleep because of it, but it was totally worth it. Poppy is a heart-wrenching story that is beautifully told. It is about two souls who are in tragic circumstances and find a sliver of light in each other and go to extreme lengths to protect each other. Poppy’s strength is astounding. Her life is a story of abuse and she is soooo freaking strong. This is ABSOLUTELY a must read and I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!

  51. Jaime Reynolds

Five plus stars.I cannot put into words how fantastic this story is. Poppy is not what I expected at all and that is a good thing. This is a darker story that kept me enthralled to the bitter end. The characters with the twists and turns kept me so intrigued that I simply could not put this book down. I am always kept on my toes with her books and it is what keeps me coming back for more. Highly recommend. Another well done story.

  52. Shanoone

I wish I could give this book more then 5 Stars. From the first page to the last it had me hooked and I just couldn’t put it down. Poppy hit me so hard that I know I cried more than a few times. This author, KRS has yet again blown me away with the emotions and feelings she can get into her writing. There is a multitude of triggers in this book so you have been warned but that said I can not recommend this book enough. You NEED to read it!

  53. Kelly

Poppys story is full of tragedy and lost love. The readers heart breaks for what Poppy has to endure throughout her life. The verbal, mental, and physical abuse is raw and very emotional.Abel starts out as having a tragic and abusive life as a young child. But Poppy saved him in so many ways! That ending though, I did not see that coming. And I was thoroughly shocked and destroyed. And of course Sal makes his appeharance and makes me love him a little more.

  54. KC

Poppy is a beautifully written and well-crafted story about ultimate love and the sacrifices made and the suffering endured to achieve it. It’s not a pretty story and you may wonder why and how could someone do what Poppy did, but then, real life isn’t pretty either, and that is what is so brilliant about this story … you feel EVERYTHING. You will surely curse, scream, cry, and maybe even throw something as you follow this story but it is well worth the emotional journey. This is another must-read from Ms. Samuels … join the rest of us who have fallen under her spell!

  55. CocktailsFairytales

Wow!! I had no idea what this book was about but for some reason I knew I just had to read it. I’m so glad that I followed my instincts because I loved this story. It was angsty, twisted, forbidden and intense…..with just the right amount of sweetness to balance everything out. And I tell ya what…..I did not see that ending coming and it left me in absolute shock!!

  56. Kristina Simkins

A gripping and emotional story that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Poppy’s young life has been filled with betrayal and abuse, yet she still has hope for her future. A sexy stranger, 20 years her senior, steps up to save her. Love and life with Kane and his young son Abel, is not anything like Poppy imagined it would be. There has to be light when the dark ends-right?This story will tear you apart and leave you wrecked. A must read. Dark and AMAZING! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

  60. Kade Braylen Gulluscio

Okay, so I went into this having only read ONE other book by Kailee. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was hooked by the second page. I’ve found myself getting bored with books lately, but this one really held my attention. Part one broke my heart. The book is beautifully written. The details make you feel like you’re there watching it happen in person. If you could read any book by Kailee, let this be it.

  61. Nat

DAMN… I am still trying to process all the emotions I went through while reading this heart-breaking story good versus evil. The strength of one woman who endures hardship after hardship to save the life and soul of one little boy… a little boy who grows up into a man and learns there is light after dark and good after the bad. Kailee has done it again and produced a phenomenal story of love and life after darkness!!

  62. MLM

This book reads like a confused teenager wrote it. Its fragmented and impossible to follow. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to read anything with such a bad story line, I’m not sure the author even had a grip on what she was writing. I can’t believe people can publish such terrible writing. Don’t waist your time or money you’ll be VERY disappointed. Amazon stop selling anything people put on here. Have SOME base line standard. So tired of them publishing terrible books.

  63. nicole Townsend brown

I really loved this book. I don’t know how Kailee does this everytime to me but I will tell you she can draw me in like no other. It amazes me everytime I read her books that she had shock factor, love, and a pull like a siren. This woman is calling to my dark soul and she eats it for dinner. Amazing truly. I am just in awe. Get this book.

  64. Gizel Alvarez

Mrs Samuels has created my favorite Heroine and broken my heart all in one book, I have to say from the few books I’ve read Poppy is her best work at least from the short list I’ve explored.Be warned reader this book is so we’ll written you feel the emotions these characters survive thru, have tissues ready because even the end brings you to your knees.

  65. Stina

I don’t know how this crazy amazing author does it time after time! With Poppy, the author broke my heart, did a big mindf***ing and then left me utterly emotional spent..!Again, the author shows how dark and twisted her mind is! I could not put this book down, so I read it in one sitting, finished it way past my bedtime!

As I am sitting here trying to put my emotions into words and I find myself speechless. The story of Poppy and Abel was breathtaking, emotional and heartbreaking. You can’t help but feel this story in your soul. I was amazed at the strength, deep soul catching love and heartbreak. Plain and simple, it made me cry (and I am not a crier). You can’t help by feel. Bravo… Bravo…

This book literally tore me apart in ways I can’t describe. Poppy is probably one of the most incredible characters and this story had so much, that I know it will always stay with me. This is atonement for those that can’t speak and for those who struggle in the dark. Thank you for this Kailee so much.
